BrentR, I think I'd like one of your homemade gifts, too. My gift-selection tip, no matter whom you're buying for, is to pay attention to things they do, say, talk about during the whole year, and have some ideas brewing in advance. Maybe go browsing or window shopping with your wife during a time of year when the crowds aren't so bad, and see what she seems drawn to.

Christmas shopping unhealthy for men.
by BrentR inmost of us guys hate shopping and now there was a study done on the psysiologic effects of shopping on men.
so ladies, when we don't want to go shopping with you don't take it personal.
it might be relaxing and enjoyable for you but it has the opposite effect on men.. http://www.cbc.ca/world/story/1998/12/22/xmasshop981222.html.

Well I haven't met one yet, but I have heard that they do exist.
What am I, chopped liver? I also happen to be a woman who hasn't been brainwashed into believing I "need" jewelry and other such expensive items. There are more of us than you might think. The same onslaught of ads that aims to teach women to want that stuff also aims to teach men that women want that stuff, and men are no less susceptible to that kind of pressure than women. And for the record, many men are very fond of expensive gift items, too -- think plasma screen TVs.

nvrgnbck, I have never met one quality gay person yet, so yes I guess Im a little biased.
I respectfully suggest your bias is the reason you've "never met one quality gay person," and not the other way around.
And have you considered that some of the quality people you have met might be gay without you knowing it?
Edit: I'd offer to introduce you to some "quality gay people," but I like them too much to submit them to that.

In the 1960s, my childhood congo's elders weren't even happy about non-military government employment. They pressured my oldest brother into quitting a full-time job with the Postal Service when he was in his early 20s. It was suggested that his employment with the government was the reason he hadn't been offered certain "privileges" in the congregation. He never had another job that good again -- and he still wasn't offered those "privileges" for a decade or two after he quit USPS. Meanwhile, the elders stopped bugging people about working for the government.
My brother's not bitter (he's convinced himself that the decision was entirely his), but I am.

One might argue that preparing food for soldiers is different from producing weapons. Weapons serve only one purpose. Soldiers are people and would eat whether they were in the military or not. Also, anyone who prepares food in a restaurant might unwittingly prepare food for a soldier.

Here is another point, Parents with children shouldnt force their kids to go to muslim countries, christian or not. Parents are free to make martyrs of themselves, but dont drag the kids into it.
Who in their right mind would want their children to be raised in Bagdad or Tehran? You do know that there's more to the Muslim world than Baghdad and Tehran, don't you?

Not all women enjoy shopping. It's just another chore to me, and a particularly unpleasant one when the stores are crowded (e.g., between Thanksgiving and New Year's).

That's odd, and very stupid actually, because i've seen many black brothers with shaved heads with priveleges. My head was almost always very near completely shaved and I had priveleges.
And a lot of men start shaving their heads when they start losing their hair. Why is it okay to go bald naturally but not to hasten the process?
My oldest brother, who's been balding since he was in his 20s (he's about 60 now), started shaving his head a few years ago. Hasn't stopped him from reading the Watchtower on Sundays at his congo.

Hi UU.
Several of the posters on this site do deny it.
BurnI wasn't aware of that. None of atheists I know personally deny Jesus' existence. Isn't the existence of the historical Jesus a fairly well established fact?

My husband was an elder, 10yrs before he stepped down. The reasons were cumulative but it all hit the fan when he was a visiting speaker at a neighboring congergation. Our son, 13 had cut his own hair, shaved the sides, normal on top. He showed he was sorry and the situation was resolved and we attended with dad to his speaking assignment. At our next meeting the other elders informed him that he would not be giving public talks until further notice. Why? A brother had complained about our son's haircut, too worldly - fadish, and that he did not have his own family in control so he could not teach others.
Aside from the triviality of the whole issue, what exactly did they expect your husband to do after the boy had cut his hair? Shave his head? Nope, too faddish, might be mistaken for a skinhead. Make him wear a wig? Nope, too effeminate and vain.
